As it ended a bitter labor dispute with its workers, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) today (July 30, 2005) said it had taken 'one-time measures' to normalize the overall situation and in the interest of the entire industrial region.
"The management has, in consideration of the state's industry in general and the welfare of HMSI workmen, agreed to resolve the current situation with certain one-time measures
that would help in normalizing overall situation and promote goodwill and harmony not just at HMSI but the entire region as well," the company said in a statement in New Delhi.
Admitting that differences had cropped up between the management and the workers over the last one month, it said, "HMSI is committed to continue to be a model company in the state of Haryana and the management would like to continue to help develop the state's industry, and work towards the betterment of the society."
"It said the company's management and workers had, over the last four years, worked together with utmost dedication and 'in complete harmony', it said.
"The proof of the hard work put and the all-prevalent good team spirit is that in a short duration of time, HMSI is today India's largest manufacturer and exporter of scooters
and the fourth-largest manufacturer in the country," it said.
