Shajapur (MP):
A woman allegedly sold three of her minor daughters, two of whom were rescued while four persons, including the mother, were arrested, police said today (July 31, 2005).
Soon after getting information, police swung into action and also prevented Gita Bai, a mother of five daughters, from selling the remaining two minor girls, Superintendent of Police B K Srivastav told sources in Shajapur.
Gita Bai, who hails from Alot, was working in a factory at Bhilwara in Rajasthan along with her husband Om Prakash of Nagda in Ujjain district, he said, adding that the woman came in contact with two persons -- Pappu and Roop Singh of Kodia village in Shajapur district, during her stay at Bhilwara.
On the pretext of visiting Nagda and Alot along with her daughters, Gita Bai went to Kodia with Pappu and Singh recently and allegedly sold her two daughters aged 13 and 12 years respectively for Rs 40,000 to one Shankar, a resident of nearby Piplauda village, he said.
Another daughter (8 years) was allegedly sold to a criminal in connivance with Pappu and Singh for Rs 42,000 a few days ago, Srivastav said adding Om Prakash informed police about the matter after he failed to trace his wife and daughters at Nagda and Alot.
Following raids, Gita Bai, Pappu, Singh and Shankar were arrested and two daughters (13 and 12 years) rescued, while efforts were on to trace the 8-year old girl, he said, adding police also foiled plans to sell the remaining two girls aged six and four years respectively.
