Pak may expand list of importable items from India Sunday, July 31 2005 14:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Pakistan is most likely to add 50 to 60 more items to the list of importable goods from India during the August 9-10 talks between the two sides on commercial and economic cooperation, but was not considering to import diesel through Wagah border as offered by New Delhi.
"The second round of talks is being held (in New Delhi) on commercial and economic cooperation, which is part of ongoing composite dialogue.
"We are currently working on about 50 to 60 more items to be added to the list of (770) importable items from India after taking all stakeholders into confidence," a Pakistan Government official told Daily Times newspaper here.
The Government was not considering including diesel or other POL (Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant) products in the importable items list, as India had wanted to export diesel to
Pakistan, he said.
About the type of items being considered for import from India, the official said it was premature to say at the moment. However, he said, the new items would be finalized within days.
The official hinted that the new items to be added to the list would be from the engineering, chemical and plastics sectors.
India has already submitted a proposal asking for the expansion of the positive list of items for more trade.
Currently, the list of importable items from India stands at 770 items according to the Import Policy Order 2005, which has been notified, the official said.
