Sitting CPI(M) MP Bikash Chaudhary passes away Monday, August 1 2005 12:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

CPI(M) (Communist Party of India Marxist) Lok Sabha member Bikash Chaudhary died here (New Delhi) this morning (Aug 01, 2005) following a heart attack, party sources said.
Chaudhary, who represented the Asansol Parliamentary constituency, was recuperating at RML hospital here.
The MP had suffered a heart attack last week when he was attending a conference of the Centre of India Trade Union in Kerala.
After his condition improved in the hospital there, he was brought to Delhi and admitted to RML hospital where he suffered another attack.
The veteran leader died at 0400 hours. Chowdhury (72), a bachelor, had been elected to the Assembly from Jamuria in 1977 when the first Left Front Government was formed in West Bengal and had won consecutively till 1996.
A member of the CPI(M) West Bengal state committee, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1998.
Chowdhury also won in the 1999 and 2004 general elections.
He was also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Coal and Steel state.
CPI(M) parliamentary party leader Basudev Acharya said in Kolkata that the mortal remains of the leader would be taken to the party office in Delhi and Parliament, after which it would be taken to his constituency.
