Radhakrishnan assault case adjourned to August 11 Monday, August 1 2005 17:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

A city Magistrates court today (August 1, 2005) adjourned to August 11, the hearing on the Radhakrishnan assault case, in which Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi is an accused.
When the 23rd Metropolitan Magistrate Umamaheswari took up the case for hearing, the counsel for the Seer filed a petition under section 317 of CRPC seeking to dispense with the Acharya's presence for today (August 1, 2005).
Accepting the petition the Magistrate adjourned the case to August 11.
All the other accused in the case, including Kanchi Mutt Manager Sundaresa Iyer and Junior Acharya Vijayendra Saraswathi's brother R Raghu and accused-turned-approver Ravi Subramaniam were present in the court.
Ravi Subramaniam is likely to be examined on August 11 by the prosecution.
In July 18, the charge sheet copies in the case were furnished to all the 12 accused in the case.
The case relates to the assault of a Mutt devotee, Radhakrishnan, in the city, in September 2002. A 600-page charge sheet was filed by the police in June last.
Barring Ravi Subramaniam, the accused turned approver, Appu and Kathiravan had been granted bail in the case.
They have been charged under IPC sections for alleged criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder and acts undertaken by several persons in furtherance of a common intention.
In all, 81 prosecution witnesses have been cited in the charge sheet, pertaining to the assault of former Mutt devotee Radhakrishnan, his wife and attendant in his city residence on September 2002.
