NDA leaders may meet President on Bihar reshuffle Monday, August 1 2005 12:31 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
NDA (National Democratic Alliance) today (Aug 01, 2005) said it would consider petitioning President APJ Abdul Kalam against the recent bureaucratic reshuffle in Bihar.
Leaders of the Opposition alliance, who met here (New Delhi) today, also decided to back former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's opposition to the Indo-US nuclear agreement.
The 30-minute-long meeting was called to discuss NDA's strategy in response to disruption of Parliament proceedings by UPA (United Progressive Alliance) allies, particularly the Left and RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) demanding BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) President L K Advani's resignation for his "provocative" statements on Ayodhya.
BJP Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha V K Malhotra later met Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and conveyed to him that if the Government does not rein in its allies, the Opposition would have to reconsider its earlier decision to extend co-operation in the smooth functioning of the House.
"We discussed the suggestion for meeting the President against the transfer of senior IPS officers in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections, which forced even the Chief Secretary
to proceed on leave," Malhotra told PTI after the NDA meeting.
Opposition leaders also decided to express their serious reservations over the Indo-US nuclear agreement as in their view, India stood to lose in the proposed division of civilian and military nuclear infrastructure while the US has not made any concession, whatsoever.
