Rains continue to lash Mumbai, disrupt air traffic
Monday, August 1 2005 15:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: Incessant heavy rains continued to lash the city on the second day today (Aug 1, 2005), inundating low-lying areas and disrupting rail and air services while in Konya-effected flood areas 150 families were shifted to safer places.

About 50 villages in Satara district remained cut off following heavy rains since yesterday (July 31, 2005) while authorities plan to release more water from Koyna dam for the second day today.

In the city, suburban train services were thrown out of gear with trains running only between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Kurla on the harbour and central railway routes.

On the western railway, the trains were moving between Churchgate and Virar although at a slow pace due to water logging on the tracks.

Vehicular traffic was also disrupted with water logging in low-lying areas such as Hindmata, Sion, Kurla, Kings Circle, Wadala, Kalina, S V Road, Khar, Milan and Dahisar.

The Government has declared a holiday for the schools and colleges today on account of met warning of heavy to heavy rainfall in the city until tomorrow (Aug 2, 2005).

People preferred to say indoors and attendance in offices and banks was very less, official sources said.

Flights out of Mumbai have been delayed and operating as per the revised schedule, airport sources said.

The incoming flights too have been delayed because of poor visibility due to heavy rains, the sources said.
