Maharashtra to get respite from rains after 2 days Monday, August 1 2005 14:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Pune:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune today (Aug 1, 2005) said there is a possibility of Maharashtra getting respite from rains after two days.
"A depression that had moved in from North Bay of Bengal is causing heavy rainfall in Maharashtra. As the depression has weakened and presently lay over central parts of Madhya Pradesh, there is a possibility of Maharashtra getting respite from rains after two days," IMD director Dr A B Mazumdar told sources here today.
"As the depression could move further towards a westerly direction from central Madhya Pradesh, rainfall can occur in some areas of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and even Maharashtra after two days," he said.
There has been widespread rainfall throughout Maharashtra particularly entire Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Konkan regions for the last one week.
However, the rainfall may shift towards north and would be very heavy in northern Maharashtra, IMD sources said.
