New Delhi:
Government has decided to constitute a Group of Ministers (GoM) to study implications of the Supreme Court order scrapping the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act (IMDT Act).
Announcing this in Lok Sabha today (August 2, 2005), Minister of State for Home S Reghupathy said in reply to a question that the GoM would hear all opinions on the question of detection and deportation of illegal migrants.
Asked whether the influx of illegal immigrants had caused "serious internal disturbances" in the North-East, the Minister said "there is no report from states" to suggest that.
He elaborated on various steps taken to detect and deport such migrants from the country, including launching of special drives for detection, border fencing and strengthening of the BSF.
