Prez rule in Bihar: NDA hits out at Centre, Buta Tuesday, August 2 2005 21:41 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Opposition in the Lok Sabha today (Aug 2, 2005) hit out at the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government at the Centre and Bihar Governor Buta Singh saying the law and order situation in the State had deteriorated after the imposition of President's rule.
They said the row between the Governor and the state Chief Secretary over transfer of IPS officials was an embarrassing incident and asked the Centre to clear the air on this.
Participating in a debate over "deteriorating law and order situation" in the state, they said it seemed the Governor had acted "under pressure" and the Centre had to do a lot of explaining on the issue.
Moving the motion, JDU (Janata Dal United) leader Nitish Kumar said, "Buta Singh will prove to be the last nail in the coffin" of the UPA coalition.
He said the law and order situation in the state had worsened and police was ill-equipped to tackle the situation. "There is nothing like law and order in Bihar."
"People in power are answerable. You should have a strategy, a plan to tackle this," he said.
Referring to the controversy over transfer of officials, Kumar said the Chief Secretary went on leave after being "ignored by the administration".
