Rise in cross-border infiltration in June-July Wednesday, August 3 2005 13:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Cross-border infiltration has increased in June and July this year due to melting of snow along the border, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee informed the Rajya Sabha today (August 3, 2005).
"It was observed that there was a reduction in the number of infiltration attempts from across the border in the initial five months of 2005. However, there has been an increase in cross-border infiltration in June and July 2005," he said during Question Hour.
Mukherjee said when snow melts, infiltration increases. "So we have to be extra careful during these months," he added.
The Minister said there has been no reduction in the number of troops deployed on the border in Jammu and Kashmir as reports indicated that the logistic infrastructure of terrorist training camps inside Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir still remained intact.
He said there were no reports to suggest that Pakistan has reduced troops on its borders.
