Ayodhya : Jail custody for militants arrested in JK

Faizabad: The four terrorists, arrested in Jammu and Kashmir for their involvement in the attack on the Ram Janambhoomi Complex in Ayodhya, were yesterday (Aug 3, 2005) remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a local court.

The four Asif Iqbal, Mohd Aziz, Mohd Nasim and Shaqeel Ahmed were produced amid tight security in thecourt of Chief Judicial Magistrate T K Tripathi who remanded them to judicial custody for a fortnight and sent them to Faizabad jail.

Senior prosecution officer Om Shiv Jaiswal said there were enough evidences to prove that the accused had conspired the attack and needed to be taken into judicial custody.

Spotlight: The Ayodhya crisis

A huge crowd, which had gathered in the court premises, raised slogans against the terrorists when the police brought them in a special vehicle.

The four militants, who were nabbed in Jammu and Kashmir on July 14 and 27 last in connection with the July 5 attack, were brought in Faizabad on Tuesday evening.

They have been slapped with charges pertaining to committing anti-national activities, riot and possession of illegal arms and criminal conspiracy leading to murder, under various sections of the IPC.

The Special Task force had on July 22 arrested a Saharanpur based doctor Irfan Khan in connection with the attack.

He has also been remanded to judicial custody till August Six and is lodged in Faizabad jail.

Five militants were killed when they made an unsuccessful bid to attack the makeshift Ram temple in the heavily guarded disputed complex last month.
