Cabinet agrees signing of MoU b/w India and Italy

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet yesterday night (Aug 4, 2005) approved signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry of Environment and Forests and the Italian government for cooperation in the field of climate change and implementation of projects under the Kyoto Protocol.

The agreement would provide an institutional mechanism between India and Italy to promote and coordinate cooperation in the field of climate change, including the Clean Development Mechanism of the Protocol, Information and Broadcasting Minister Jaipal Reddy told reporters after a Cabinet meeting in New Delhi.

The agreement would facilitate exchange of information between the Designated National Authorities of India and Italy to facilitate Clean Development Mechanism projects, he said.

The agreement shall remain in force till 2012, which is till the end of the first commitment period.
