New Delhi:
Leaders from CPI and CPI-M today (August 5, 2005) moved privilege motions in the Lok Sabha seeking unqualified apology from Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who flung a bunch of papers at the Speaker's podium yesterday (August 4, 2005) alleging that she had been deliberately denied a chance to speak.
Raising the issue shortly after Question Hour, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta wanted to know the status of his privilege motion.
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said "this is under my consideration" . He said all privilege motions were under his consideration.
The ruling UPA, its Left party allies and supporters have condemned what they termed as the "wild behaviour" of Banerjee and demanded that she tender an unqualified apology.
The Left parties joined by Samajwadi Party, RJD and BSP in a statement yesterday said what happened in the Lok Sabha was not only unparliamentary but an affront to the Parliamentary system.
