Fernandes ridicules attempts to revive third front Saturday, August 6 2005 15:44 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Convener George Fernandes today (August 6, 2005) scoffed at attempts to revive the 'third front' and sought to downplay Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) attempts to revert to Hindutva.
Speaking to reporters here, Fernandes said all MPs were in some party or the other or the front and he could not understand how the third front could be brought in.
"All other fronts are being discussed. Third front, fourth front and fifth front without understanding that you can't produce MPs," he said.
Asked if he was happy that L K Advani continued to be in the saddle as BJP President after the controversy over his remarks on Mohammad Ali Jinnah, he said he would be happy for anything that does not hurt NDA.
Asked if it was a matter of concern that the BJP was again slipping back to Hindutva, he said the BJP is a party on its own and his party was on its own. "We are stuck to our ideologies. BJP has its own ideology. So we do not get painted by each other's ideology."
