Suspended Tamil Nadu IAS officer K M Subramaniam, accused of receiving bribe from suppliers of various materials to the state Social Welfare Department in 2002, has been chargesheeted by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).
The 18-page chargesheet filed at a Magistrate court here last evening (August 5, 2005) also lists a local department official, Jagadeesan, as an accused alleging that he had instigated the IAS official to receive the bribe, DVAC officials said today (August 6, 2005).
Subramaniam, who was the Director of the Social Welfare Department, was arrested at the Circuit House here on October 26, 2002 by the DVAC officials following a raid on a tip off that he was receiving bribes from those who supplied grocery etc to the noon meal centres run by the department. He was released later.
Cash to the tune of Rs one lakh was seized from Subramaniam, they said.
The DVAC proceeded against him after obtaining sanction from the Central Government.
The chargesheet is backed by 54 prosecution witnesses and 64 material records.
DVAC officials said cases had been filed under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
