Bihar elections may be held in October, says EC
Monday, August 8 2005 20:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Indicating that elections to the Bihar Assembly could be held in October, the Election Commission today (Aug 8, 2005) corrected the Supreme Court, which was putting November as the likely month for holding the polls.

Spotlight: Bihar Elections

During the hearing of the applications seeking a stay on the decision of EC to notify polls, a Bench comprising Chief Justice R C Lahoti, Justice C K Thakker and Justice P K Balasubramanyan dictated that the petitioners want a stay on the election process for the polls likely to be held in November this year.

Immediately, EC counsel S Muralidhar said that the Commission had expressed its inability to hold elections in the months of August and September.

"The elections could be held in October or November," he added making the Supreme Court correct its dictated order.
