Trouble brewing for Tytler; Cong to take action Tuesday, August 9 2005 19:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Trouble appears to be brewing for Union Minister Jagdish Tytler, who is in the eye of the storm in the wake of the Nanavati Commission recommending action against him in connection with 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
This became clear as Congress, concerned over the snowballing demand for action against him, today (Aug 9, 2005) gave ample indications of taking some corrective measures saying, "We are a sensitive political party and assessment of the situation is a continuous process".
With the Opposition BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) disrupting Parliament and Left also expressing its views in a strong manner, Congress spokesman Anand Sharma did not rule out the possibility of Home Minister Shivraj Patil making amendments to the Action Taken Report when a discussion takes place in Parliament. He was replying to a question in this regard.
Sharma wanted a threadbare discussion in Parliament on the issue and was prepared to face the demands, objections and criticism of the Opposition.
"After the debate, there could be appropriate and logical clarifications even to the ATR".
On the Tytler issue, he maintained that probability is not actionable under criminal law.
