Taj Mahal to have CCTV surveillance for security Wednesday, August 10 2005 15:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Agra:
As a part of enhancing security management system of Taj Mahal, closed circuit TV cameras would soon be installed to monitor the movements of visitors to the 17th century monument.
The decision was taken at a meeting between Archeological Survey of India Director General C Babu Rajeev and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Inspector General Radhakrishnan Kinne yesterday (Aug 9, 2005), local ASI officials said in Agra today (Aug 10, 2005).
CISF, which is in charge of the internal security of the world famous monument, has suggested the need for a CCTV surveillance of movements inside and around the monument.
ASI officials said Rajeev agreed to the suggestion and asked for a formal request to be sent to the ASI.
The ASI Director General, however, did not approve of the suggestion to have armed bunkers at the Eastern and Southern gates of the Taj on the ground that these would give
a bad look to the approaches, local ASI officials claimed.
