Buta Singh says he will resign as Gurudwara chief
Thursday, August 11 2005 21:43 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Patna: Bihar Governor Buta Singh today (Aug 11, 2005) said that he would resign from the Gurudwara Sahib Singh in Nanded as president in the wake of the Mumbai High Court's order if needed.

''I have sought the copy of the HC's order and, if needed, I will resign as office-bearer of the Gurudwara,'' Singh told reporters in Patna.

''Moreover, I am not holding a post of profit being a honorary president of the Gurudwara,'' he said.

In a setback to Singh, the Bombay High Court yesterday (Aug 10, 2005) struck down an order of the Maharashtra Government appointing him as the president of Nanded-based Gurudwara Sahib Singh as he being the Governor of a State was holding an office of profit.

The court had, however, accepted Buta Singh's plea for leave to file an appeal against the impugned order and also stayed its order for six weeks to enable him to file such an appeal.
