Tytler's resignation is okay, what about Modi: Basu
Friday, August 12 2005 18:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: Veteran CPI-M (Communist Party of India Marxist) leader Jyoti Basu today (Aug 12, 2005) expressed satisfaction over the resignation of union minister Jagdish Tytler in the wake of Nanavati Commission report on the 1984 anti-Sikh riot, but wondered how Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was continuing after the riots in his state.

''We are satisfied that Tytler has submitted his resignation. But I wonder how Modi continues to remain in his post after the mass killing in Gujarat in which he and his Government were involved,'' Basu told reporters at the CPI-M office here (Kolkata).

''He may be arrested or action may be taken against him. But what our party will demand will be decided by the politburo,'' he said.

Meanwhile, Leader of the CPI-M in the Lok Sabha Basudeb Acharya said that the Modi issue would be raised in the house next week and demand immediate submission of the other report of the Nanavati Commission on the Gujarat riots.

Acharya said that after the Gujarat riots CPI-M had been constantly demanding action against Modi.

''This time we will again demand action against him. But another demand will be immediate submission of the report of Nanavati Commission which probed the Gujarat riots as already two years and four months have passed.''
