Chennai: The National Rural Employment Guarantee Bill will be introduced in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 16, 2005) next with the Union Cabinet accepting some important amendments to the 2004 bill, Information and Broadcasting Minister S Jaipal Reddy said here (Chennai) today (Aug 12, 2005).

The Union Cabinet had cleared some 'important' amendments to the bill last night, he told reporters at the airport on his arrival from New Delhi.

To a question, he said he did not want to spell out the amendments as Parliament was in session.

He expressed the hope that the left parties would be satisfied with the amendments.

On the Women's reservation bill, he said the Congress wanted reservation for women (in parliament and legislatures), but he was unable to say when the bill would be introduced.
