New Delhi:
A Sikh Delegation led by Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today (August 12, 2005) met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demanded implementation of the Nanavati Commission report with immediate punishment for the guilty.
The delegation, in a memorandum to Singh, also demanded that the Government provide suitable jobs to children of riot-affected families by relaxing qualification norms for them.
Releasing a copy of the memorandum to the press, Paramjit Singh Sarna, President of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, who was part of the delegation, said a demand was made that riot hit families provided with flats be exempted from paying further installments.
Sarna said the Prime Minister heard them sympathetically and promised to consider their demands.
In the memorandum, the Sikh leaders also appreciated the Prime Minister's speech in Rajya Sabha yesterday (August 12, 2005) and said it had kindled hope among all right thinking people that the Government appeared keen on implementing the Nanavati Commission report in right earnest.
The delegation also included Ramchandra Paswan and Suraj Bhan, both Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MPs.
