1 killed, over 40 injured in B'desh shrine blasts

Dhaka: At least one person was killed and over 40 other devotees of a Muslim saint were injured in a series of bomb blasts at a shrine in southeast Bangladesh early today (Aug 13, 2005) witnesses and media reports said.

The shrine at the Akhaura town of Brahmanbaria district, 224 kilometers from the capital Dhaka, was shaken by explosions soon after midnight, following which tension gripped the area, witnesses said.

At least one person was killed and 42 others were injured in the blasts, media reports said.

Faithful had gathered at the shrine for the annual Urs. No other details were available.

Number of other shrines has been attacked in the past, but police have failed to pinpoint the perpetrators.
