Guj court sends 'Godmother' to judicial custody Sunday, August 14 2005 10:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
Santokben Jadeja alias 'Godmother' arrested in connection with the murder case of a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) councillor, was yesterday night (Aug 13, 2005) sent to 14-days judicial custody by a court in Porbandar.
Santokben, a prime accused in the murder case was arrested from Rajkot district yesterday, and a 14-days police remand was sought. However, the court rejected the remand plea and sent Santokben to judicial custody.
Police while demanding the remand told the court that Santokben was absconding in the case since past five months and they needed to quiz her regarding her activities during this period.
Moreover, the gun used in the crime was still not recovered and the accused also needed to be asked about the whereabouts about another absconding accused in this case 'Kano'.
According to the police, Kano was staying with Santokben during the past five months.
Both of Santokben's sons --Karan and Kandal-- are already in custody in connection with the same murder case.
Santokben's name emerged in the case after some arrests were made and on the basis of the statement of one person who was injured in the incident on March 1 wherein BJP councillor Keshu Odedra was shot dead.
Even though police did manage to get hold of her two sons two days after the murder just as they were planning to flee to Mumbai, Santokben had managed to slip out from Porbandar and evade arrest.
