8 killed by naxals in Mehboobnagar district of AP

Hyderabad: Naxalites killed a legislator and seven others in Mehboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh today (Aug 15, 2005), police said.

The MLA, Narsi Reddy, representing Maktal constituency, had gone to inaugurate a school building near Narayanpet when the naxals opened fire, killing the eight persons, police added.

Earlier, a former naxal Bhukya Padma (18) was hacked to death by maoists at Marimadla village on July 30.

About six maoists of Jagtial area including a woman armed with weapons went to the house of Saleema (52), who was working as cook of mid-day meals scheme, this morning and beat her to death branding her as police informer, police said.

The naxals beat up the family members of the victim who urged the extremists not to harm her, police added.
