Sania Mirza slips two places in WTA tour rankings
Monday, August 15 2005 13:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Sania Mirza just about managed to remain in the top-50 bracket following her first round loss in the $585,000 women's tennis event in Los Angeles last week.

Sania, who had reached her career high ranking of 48 a week ago, slipped two places to be at 50 in the latest WTA Tour rankings released today (Aug 15, 2005).

The 18-year-old Indian became the first Indian since Ramesh Krishnan in 1980s to break into top-50 in world rankings.

The Hyderabadi has opted out of the $1.3-million event she had planned to play in Toronto this week as she recuperates from a stomach muscle pull.

She is expected to play in the $75,000 Forest Hills Classic next week, the last event ahead of the US Open Grand Slam beginning August 29.
