London: US singer Madonna was taken to a British hospital after falling off a horse while celebrating her 47th birthday yesterday (August 16, 2005), her spokeswoman said.

The pop queen has broken her collar bone, a hand, and cracked three ribs as a result of the fall.

Her spokeswoman said she was expected to be released from hospital soon.

The singer was celebrating with her two children and her film director-husband Guy Ritchie at their sprawling 1,200-acre Ashcome House country estate in Wiltshire, southwest England, when the accident happened.
