No info about SIMI's activities in Delhi: Govt
Wednesday, August 17 2005 17:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Government today (Aug 17, 2005) said there was no information about Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI's) activities in the national capital but admitted the presence of terrorist outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammad and Babbar Khalsa International in Delhi.

Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, Patil said there was no information about SIMI's activities in Delhi though its activists might be present in some other places.

As far as the activities of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are concerned, the Minister told Opposition members that some people belonging to the organization might have come to work in Delhi, but 'they are not active.'

Similarly, the Minister said, information suggested that illegal Bangladeshis had come to Delhi only in search of jobs and livelihood.

He said recent intelligence inputs suggested that terrorist organizations such as Hizb-e-Islami, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizbul-Mujahideen had heir presence in Delhi.

Patil said the Government had information that these terrorist outfits were talking and coordinating their activities.

"The terrorist organizations have been talking to each other and preparing plans to cooperate and coordinate their activities," the Minister said.

In reply to a question, Patil refuted the charge that the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) had blunted provisions to meet the terror challenge and said stringent measures had been incorporated in the amended Unlawful Activities Act.
