UK Blasts: Italy to extradite London bomb suspect Thursday, August 18 2005 11:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
London:
An Italian court yesterday (Aug 17, 2005) approved the extradition within 35 days of a Briton of Ethiopian origin wanted in connection with the failed bomb attacks here on July 21.
Twenty five-year-old Osman Hussain, also known as Hamdi Issac, will fight the decision at the Italian Supreme Court his lawyers said in Rome.
Hussain, who was arrested in Italy one week after the attacks, was accused of trying to bomb an underground train at Shepherd's Bush in west London. Hussain however, said he only wanted to scare people and not kill them.
Scotland Yard anti-terror officers flew to Italy last week to question Hussain at the Rome prison where he has been held since July 29.
According to reports, he fled to Italy by train after allegedly being seen at the scene of the failed attack at Shepherd's Bush underground station.
Three others have been charged in Britain with the failed bombings, which targeted three underground trains and a bus.
Ibrahim Muktar Said, 27, Yassin Hassan Omar, 24, and Ramzi Mohamed, 23, appeared before magistrates on Bow Street magistrates court in south-east London last week and were charged with attempted murder and possessing explosives.
The suspects were also charged with conspiracy to murder.
The failed July 21 attacks took place two weeks after four suicide bombers killed 52 passengers on the London transport network.
