Demand for early submission of Nanavati Commission Thursday, August 18 2005 15:14 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
A strong demand that the G.T. Nanavati Commission, probing the Godhra carnage, should be asked to submit its report at the earliest was made by CPI-M leader Basudeb Acharia in the Lok Sabha today (August18,2005).
Raising the issue during zero hour, he said that the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission had already indicted the Gujarat government. The report is required early as "justice delayed is justice denied".
Besides, he said that the Additional Director General of Gujarat Police, Sreekumar had made certain serious allegations on who had a hand in the killings.
Acharia wanted the Centre to ask the Commission to expediate its report, but Speaker Somnath Chatterjee observed that Commission could not be given any such directions.
