BJP to raise Buta letter in Parliament, NDA to meet Friday, August 19 2005 17:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Describing as 'highly improper' Bihar Governor Buta Singh's recommendation for transfer of a Railway official, Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) today (Aug 19, 2005) said it would raise the issue vociferously in both Houses of Parliament on Monday (Aug 22, 2005) and demand his recall to ensure free and fair polls in the state.
The issue would also figure prominently at a meeting of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders called on Monday, BJP Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra told sources.
"It was highly improper for the Governor to have written to the Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. Both are getting postings and transfers of their choice done through each
other. The upcoming Assembly elections cannot be free and fair in such circumstances", he said.
The Opposition would raise the issue vociferously in both Houses of Parliament, he said, adding it would be discussed at a meeting of the leaders of the Opposition alliance called
in New Delhi on Monday .
Earlier in the day, party Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government of lending 'direct or indirect support' to the 'unlawful activities' of Buta Singh and said his party would approach the Election Commission to seek its intervention as polls were due in the state.
