Mumbai:
The POTA court here yesterday (August 18, 2005) resumed the trial in the twin blast case of August 25, 2003 in which 50 persons were killed and over 100 injured.
The Bombay High Court had recently vacated its stay on the trial by the POTA court, which was granted after some of the accused moved the High Court challenging the confessional statement of one of the accused.
The police had arrested Ashrat Ansari and Mohammed Hanif, Haneef's wife Fahmida and daughter Farheen for the blasts that occurred at Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar.
Meanwhile, Fahmida yesterday (August 18, 2005) moved a bail application in the
POTA court on the grounds that she was unwell in the prison.
Fahmida, who moved the application under section 437 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), stated that she has been suffering from illness and requires proper treatment which is not available in the jail.
The Special Judge, A P Bhangale, directed the jail authorities to submit a medical report of Fahmida in the court by August 23, 2005, the day on which the hearing is scheduled.
