Pranab rubbishes Surjeet's allegations on Mamata
Friday, August 19 2005 17:14 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: Rubbishing former Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI (M) General Secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet's allegation about the role of Bengal's 'firebrand lady' in organising anti-Sikh riots in 1984, West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) chief Pranab Mukherjee said ''Where was she at that period of time?''

Asked for his comment on Surjeet's oblique reference to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in organising anti-Sikh violence in Kolkata, Mukherjee told reporters here that Mamata Banerjee was not in the political scenario on October 31, 1984.

''Where was Mamata Banerjee in the political scenario then?'' Pranab Mukherjee, the Defence minister, told a questioner. Mukherjee also brushed aside allegations that Congress had a role in the anti-Sikh riots.
