Operations to locate Navy copter in Belgaum resumed
Saturday, August 20 2005 11:21 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: Search operations were resumed early this morning (August 20, 2005) to locate the wreckage of the Navy helicopter which crashed in the jungles of Karnataka's Belgaum district with four naval personnel feared dead, a senior police official said.

Rains and cloudy weather continued to hamper the operations in the treacherous area on the Karnataka-Goa border in the Western Ghats, the official involved in the operations told PTI over phone from the site.

The Kamov-28 submarine hunter, with a crew of six, had crashed near Golyali in Khanapur Taluk after it lost control with the ground within 30 minutes of its take off from Daholim Naval airbase in Goa for Vishakapatnam.

Hampered by heavy rains and darkness, the search operations for the wreckage and any possible survivors were called off late last night (August 19, 2005).

Personnel from the Maratha Light Infantry and the local and Goa Police are engaged in the operations, police said.
