Place of wreckage of Kamov-28 Navy helicopter found

Bangalore: The place of wreckage of the Kamov-28 Navy helicopter, which crashed in the jungles of Khanapur Taluk in Belgaum District of Karnataka, has been located, top police sources said.

The Army team involved in the search operations had spotted the place 26 kms from Krishnapuri village and were on way to reach it to find out if there were survivors, sources said.

Some 500 personnel from the Navy, Army, Karnataka Forest Department and local and Goa Police were involved in the massive search operations.

The helicopter, carrying six Navy personnel, on its way to Vishakapatnam had crashed on Friday (August 19, 2005) on Karnataka-Goa border 25 minutes after it took off from Dabolin Naval airbase in Goa.

Four persons were feared dead in the crash.
