Implement farmers' income insurance scheme: BJP Monday, August 22 2005 13:03 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday (August 21, 2005) demanded that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government implement the 'farmers income insurance scheme' introduced by the previous National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime to enhance the purchasing capacity of the farming community.
Unlike the crop insurance scheme, this scheme insures both the produce and price with the Central Government, providing 75 per cent of premium to insurance companies and remaining by the farmers themselves, the former Union Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh said.
Addressing the inter-state farmers' conference here organised by the BJP's Kisan Morcha, Singh said the UPA Government has announced that this scheme would be implemented after certain modifications but has, in fact, kept it in 'freezer.'
According to him, if the 'farmers income insurance scheme' is implemented, it would lead to boom in Indian economy and the country would turn into a developed country in the next five to seven years.
