The cross examination of Ravi Subramanian, accused-turned-approver in the Radhakrishnan assault case, slated for today (August 22, 2005), was adjourned to September two following a petition by an accused seeking the adjournment on the ground that he has appointed a new counsel to represent him and hence needed time to present all facts to the advocate.
When the case came up before the XXXIII Metropolitan Magistrate, Uma Maheswari, an accused Bhoominathan, in a petition sought an adjournment of the cross examination by the defence by 15 days stating that he 'has engaged a new counsel today to defend him and there is not sufficient time to narrate the facts of the case to his counsel'.
Following the request, the Judge fixed September two for the cross examination.
The Judge also allowed a petition filed under Sec 317 Crpc by K S Dinakaran, counsel for Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi, an accued in the case, for dispensing with the seers appearing in the court today.
The other 10 accused, including Raghu, the brother of junior Seer Vijayendra Saraswathi and mutt Manager Sundaresa Iyer, were present in the court in connection with the September 20, 2002, attack on the former temple employee
Radhakrishnan, his wife and an attendant at his residence in the city.
