New Delhi:
The family of Sarabjit Singh, who has been sentenced to death in Pakistan in an alleged case of mistaken identity for involvement in bomb blasts in that country, today (Aug 23, 2005) knocked at the doors of Government of India with the plea that it should take up his case with President Pervez Musharraf.
Vehemently denying that Sarabjit was a RAW agent, his elder sister Dalbir Kaur, who met External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh to make a plea for her brother here, said the
government should send the evidence of his innocence to Musharraf.
"It is a case of mistaken identity. The case is against some Manjit Singh. My brother is innocent and I want the government to talk to Musharraf to save him," Dalbir, who has
come to Delhi along with her husband Baldev Singh from Amritsar, said.
Accompanied by BJP MPs Navjot Sidhu and Avinash Rai Khanna, and Akali Dal MPs Ratan Singh Ajnar and S S Dhindsa during her meeting with the External Affairs Minister, she said he gave the assurance that the government will do all it can to save Sarabjit.
"Singh said the government is making full efforts in this regard and has already talked to the Pakistani side. We were told that the government will do all it can, be it give a
mercy petition or take up the matter through diplomatic channels," Khanna told reporters after the meeting.
