Jaya favours one-third reservation for women
Wednesday, August 24 2005 17:14 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, today (August 24, 2005) favoured a 33.33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures.

She told reporters at the secretariat here that one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies could be converted into 'double member' constituencies for the purposes of reservation.

'There should be reservation for backward classes among the seats reserved for women', she said and wanted early passage of the women's reservation bill.

'It is long overdue', she said.
