'Some movement likely on Coordination Comm boycott' Wednesday, August 24 2005 18:34 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist (M) today (Aug 24, 2005) indicated that Left parties may rethink their decision to stay away from the meetings of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Left Coordination Committee after the ongoing Parliament session, provided the Government gives them an assurance not to disinvest Navratna companies.
"We expect some movement to take place after the Parliament session ends," CPI (M) Politburo member Sitaram Yechuri told reporters here on a query when the boycott was
likely to be lifted.
He did not elaborate what sort of 'movement' he was referring to.
However, he added that the UPA should give an assurance that Bharatiya Janata Electricals Limited (BHEL) and other Navratna companies would not be disinvested.
The Monsoon session of Parliament will run till August 31.
The Left parties had suspended participation in the meetings because of the Government's decision to disinvest 10 per cent stake in BHEL.
Veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu had said last week that the issue of returning to the Coordination Committee meetings would be discussed in a party meeting next month.
The Left parties have been boycotting the Left-UPA Coordination Committee meetings since June.
