Sarabjit Singh's issue to echo in Pak Parliament Wednesday, August 24 2005 09:42 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The issue of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national sentenced to death in Pakistan for his alleged involvement in bomb blasts there, will find an echo in Pakistan Parliament later this month, with an MP giving an assurance in this regard here yesterday (August 23, 2005).
"I do not know the facts of the case. But will take your voice to our Assembly, which is meeting on August 29, 2005, and seek an answer from our Government," M P Bandara, Member of National Assembly, told reporters here on the sidelines of the launch of Indo-Pak Parliamentary Forum.
The MP belonging to Pakistan Muslim League (Qaid-e-Azam) said nobody in this country would face the gallows just because of misunderstanding.
Bandara favoured long-term measures to ensure that citizens of the two countries did not languish in jails, particularly on minor charges like inadvertent crossing of the border.
He hoped a solution would be found to this issue through confidence building measures (CBMs).
Sherry Rehman, Member of National Assembly from Pakistan People's Party (PPP), said the issue can be dealt with from human rights point of view.
