Congress Working Committee meet to be held tomorrow Thursday, August 25 2005 16:07 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
A meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is expected to be held here tomorrow (August 26, 2005) to decide on the venue of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Plenary Session, likely in October.
Party sources said Congress President Sonia Gandhi has convened the meeting in the evening.
The CWC had been converted into a Steering Committee two months ago after the organisational polls, which saw Gandhi being elected to the top post for the third consecutive time.
Hyderabad, Nagpur and Surajkund in Haryana near Delhi have emerged as possible venues for the Plenary Session, which will be the first after Congress returned to power at the Centre in May 2004, heading the coalition.
The last Plenary Session was held in March 2001 in Bangalore, close on the heels of the Tehelka expose.
Gandhi would also decide the venue of the Congress Chief Ministers Conclave, which is likely to be held by the middle of next month, after the return of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from foreign tour.
Dehra Dun could be a possible venue for that meeting.
