Mumbai:
Members of the underworld gangs of Dawood and Chhota Rajan, clashed inside the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai, leaving a jail personnel injured, police said.
Construction material, including bricks and stones, lying in the jail premises, were freely used by the clashing groups after an altercation between them late yesterday (Aug 26, 2005) evening outside the highly guarded cell, where members of the gang
were lodged separately.
Head constable Shahbuddin Mulani was injured when he came under a volley of brickbats by the members of Dawood gang, police said adding that Mulani was undergoing treatment.
According to details available, Mulani was shifting members of Chhota Rajan gang to the a cell when the members of the two gangs came face to face outside the cell.
An altercation broke out and even though jail officials immediately moved the gang members away, they attacked each other, police said.
Situation was, however, under control at present, they added.
Jail officials have booked a case of rioting against the members.
