Cong, BJP implicated me in Taj scam: Mayawati
Friday, August 26 2005 19:31 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Patna: Unfazed by her possible prosecution in the Taj corridor irregularities, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today (Aug 26, 2005) said that she would not buckle under any pressure and would fight the legal and political battle with full vigour.

Addressing state BSP workers conference here, Mayawati said as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh she had nothing to do with the Taj corridor project and maintained that though hardly Rs 18 crore were spent on it, the BJP spread the canard that Rs 175 crore were withdrawn from the state exchequer.

"main iss farzi case se vichlit nahin hone wali hoon (I will not be cowed down by this false and political case)", she said. "I know that atrocities against me and BSP workers would increase as we grow in strength", Mayawati said. She charged the BJP and the Congress with getting her falsely implicated in the case.

Mayawati said "while the BJP has been instrumental in falsely implicating her in the Taj corridor case, the Congress has tried to linger the case for political reasons". She alleged that the bureaucrats, including the then chief secretary were dealing with the matters relating to the Taj corridor project and action should be initiated against them if irregularities of any nature had come into focus.
