TNCC to initiate for linking Godavari-Cauvery Saturday, August 27 2005 19:43 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Welcoming the recent river linking agreement between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president G K Vasan today (Aug 27, 2005) said Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh and Cauvery in Tamil Nadu should also be similarly linked.
The TNCC would take up this initiative to impress upon the Centre to achieve this goal by involving the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, he told reporters here. The National River Water Commission had identified 14 rivers in North India to be linked with 16 rivers of South India.
To a question, he said the Election Commission had rejected about 13 lakh bogus applications in the state. "If EC does not take action (against those who filed the
bogus applications) then people might lose faith in the Commission."
Criticising the (Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) AIADMK government in the state on the recent sops announced by it for self-help Groups in the state, he said "there is a political motive behind this action."
