Karat nominated to National Integration Council

New Delhi: Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary Prakash Karat has been nominated to the reconstituted National Integration Council (NIC), headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, along with three others.

Karat joins the NIC under the category of leaders of national political parties, a Home Ministry spokesman said.

President of Confederation of Indian Industries, Y C Deveshwar, was nominated to the Council under the business representatives' category. He succeeds Sunil Kant Munjal.

Under the women's representative category, General Secretary of National Federation of Indian Women, Annie Raja, has been included in the council in place of Sehba Farooqui.

Annie is the wife of CPI National Secretary, D Raja.

Mohammed Fazal has been deleted from the re-constituted eminent council.
