Take steps to curb extremism in TN: Hindu Munnani Saturday, August 27 2005 18:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Government should take all steps to prevent movement of any extremist elements in the state, Hindu Munnani today (Aug 27, 2005) said.
Islamic extremist groups were 'increasingly creating problems' in various parts of the country. Therefore, the Government should ensure that such elements were not allowed
any hold in the state, Hindu Munnani state organising Secretary N Muruganantham and general secretary Durai Sankar told newsmen in Chennai.
They also said a rally had been scheduled for December 18 at Dindigul to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Munnani.
Nearly two lakh people were expected to participate in the celebrations. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Venkaiah Naidu and L Ganesan would also attend the event. On the occasion, a conference was also being organised.
On the coming Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations, the two described as 'unfortunate' the 'sudden' police directive that the Vinayaka idols to be immersed in sea should not be more than five feet in height.
While most of the idols were less than 10 feet in height, a few of them were around 13 feet. Police should have informed earlier. "We cannot understand this sudden order by police. This is denial of rights of Hindus and only hurts Hindu sentiments", they claimed asking the Government to reconsider its decision.
He said the immersions procession, which would be held on Sept 8, 9 10 and 11 in different parts of the state, would be held keeping in mind the Madras High Court order on the matter.
