CM BhattacharjeeÂ's foreign visit under scanner
Monday, August 29 2005 12:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: In the backdrop of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee's high-profile visit to Indonesia and Singapore to woo foreign investors and multinationals to the state, the Communist Party of India (Marxists) would discuss the issue threadbare at its Politburo and Central Committee meetings in Delhi early next month. "The recent trip of Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee to Singapore and Indonesia would be discussed at the Politburo meeting next month", veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu told reporters without elaborting.

CPI(M) sources here said that politburo would meet on September 01 and 02 and Central committee on September 03.

On a visit to Indonesia for wooing FDI in sectors like real estate, Bhattacherjee had said that his party was trying to change the "mindset" of workers as the state needed FDI and infrastructure.

Earlier, inaugurating a joint venture housing project in Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district yesterday (August 28, 2005), Basu said the state government would have to see that no farmer was displaced from his land without rehabilitation for setting up the project of the Indonesia's business house Salim Group in West Bengal. Making it clear that farmer's interests need to be protected, the veteran Marxist said, "there was need to explain to the people (on acquisition of land for the project). We will have to explore alternative means for them without which neither the Salim project could be possible nor the expressway could be developed".

An agreement for setting up an industrial economic zone and township and a health city in South 24 Paraganas district was signed between the Salim Group, an Indonesian business house, and the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation during Bhattacherjee's recent visit to Jakarta.
