Five dead in building collapse in south Mumbai

Mumbai: Five persons died and 13 others were injured when an old dillapidated building collapsed at New Marine Lines in south Mumbai late last night (August 28, 2005), police said.

The identity of the deceased, which include three women, is yet to be established, police said adding, the survivors and the relatives have been asked to identify the bodies.

Thirteen persons sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to the G T Hospital while three persons miraculously escaped unhurt, police said.

The building that collapsed was situated on New Marine street near Panchratna hotel.

All the debris have been removed, police added.

This is the third incident of building collapse in last 15 days in south Mumbai, which has a large number of old buildings.

While 11 persons had died in the building collapse on Temkar Road in Nagpada area, there were no injuries in another incident when a dillapidated vacant building collapsed partially in Tardeo.
